Brock Cutting, Principal

Brock Cutting has worked as a landscape architect and project manager at Dodson Associates for over 14 years and is now a Principal at the firm. He has extensive experience in the design and simulation of limited development and in non-standard types of development such as clusters, new hamlets and new villages. He has worked with many municipalities, small towns, counties and non-profits trying to illustrate the long term consequences of existing zoning and development trends and to develop specific, practical alternatives. From 1998 to 2000 Brock was project manager and principal landscape architect for Dodson Associates’ work on Albemarle County , Virginia's "Neighborhood Model: Development Initiatives Study". Together with Torti Gallas and Partners/CHK Dodson Associates received a 2002 American Institute of Architects National Honor Award for Regional and Urban Design for this project and accompanying book-length publication.

Brock was also the project manager for Dodson Associates' development of the award-winning book, Dealing with Change in the Connecticut Valley. As part of the Dodson Associates team working on masterplanning and accommodation studies for the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, he worked on the adaptive re-use of the 25 building Sprague Mill Complex located at the confluence of the two branches of the Hoosac River at the center of North Adams, Massachusetts. Other projects include the re-development of the former Mansfield Training School Campus, a study on the Tuckaleechee Cove gateway to the Smokey Mountains National Park and site design for numerous elementary schools and private residential gardens.

A 1986 graduate of the M.L.A. program at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, Brock has a background in film and sculpture as well as minors in anthropology and botany. At Dodson Associates Brock has concentrated on context-oriented masterplanning, site design and resource conservation.
