Our Work: Regional, Community & Town Planning
At Dodson Associates we believe that physical planning and design should be restored to the central role they once played in the regional and community planning process. This can be done by working with stakeholders to develop compelling physical plans and accompanying sketches and computer simulations of future planning scenarios. This helps galvanize support for planning changes and generates enthusiasm for a shared vision of a community's future growth and character. Translating complex, large-scale planning issues into tangible scenarios of future growth engages a wide range of participants in the regional planning process. Plans developed this way usually features large swaths of protected open space, wildlife habitat and farmland as well as vital, dynamic centers served by multi-modal transportation and built on sustainable development principles. Current and recent projects include a regional greenway plan for the Pawcatuck River watershed in Rhode Island, a regional water resource comprising a half dozen communities, private residents, environmental groups and business associations. The firm is also completing a regional growth management plan for Charleston, South Carolina, a waterfront access plan for the Long Island South Shore Estuary Reserve, and a watershed plan for six communities in the Deerfield River watershed of Massachusetts.
